April 07, 2012
A new record for us at Powder Creek, we broke the 400 cm snowpack mark April 5th with 406 cm (13 1/4 ft)! This season wrap-up trip started out as another big snow week with another 102 cm of new snow. Temperatures were warm, and by the end of the week the storms cleared off and we had a couple lovely bluebird days to finish off the season. The average minimum temperature for the week was -9.8 degrees Celsius and the average max temp was +3. Lots of settlement by the end of the week left us with a snowpack of 393 cm (13 ft). It was a great wrap-up trip - we could probably keep skiing into the end of May this year with all this snow!
March 24, 2012
For the 5th week in a row big storms continued again, dumping another 105 cm of powder, including two very fine goose-down days of skiing. This March is going to go down in our books as one of our snowiest ones on record with 365 cm (12 ft) of new snow falling across the month so far. The average minimum temperature for the week was -10 degrees Celsius and the average max temp was -2. The total snowpack is now a very plump 363 cm (11 3/4 ft).

All the new snow firmly broke the 300 cm mark, with the total snowpack at 348 cm (11 1/2 ft) by the end of the week.

Another snowy March week with 54 cm of new snow and some great skiing. The temperatures are starting to show the swing towards spring with the average minimum temp for the week being -10 degrees Celsius and the average max temp -1. The total snowpack is now at 287 cm (8 3/4 ft+).

Big storms at the start and end of the week dumped another 63 cm (2+ ft) on Powder, and combined with a couple bluebird days mid week made for excellent skiing. The average minimum temperature for the week was -13.2 degrees Celsius and the average max temp was -7.8. Though the snowpack nearly broke the 300 cm mark a couple times, the low-density snow settled out to 279 cm (9+ ft) by the end of the week.

The dry spell ended with a bang as a big storm dumped a massive 114 cm (3 3/4 ‘) of fresh snow on Powder Creek! On Feb 22 alone it snowed 45 cm in 24 hr. Similar to last week, the high pressure continued for most of this week bringing mixed and clear skies and only a little new snow. A little cooler than last week, the average minimum temperature for the week was -12.3 degrees Celsius and the average max temp was - 2. Small, locally-generated storms brought 24 cm of new snow across the week in small incriments. The total snowpack at the end of the week was 225 cm (7 1/4+ ft). Powder skiing was still excellent on North aspects and a big storm that started just as the group flew out will bring powder snow to all aspects again.

Our first low-snow week in months, this week was dominated by a high pressure system that brought clear skies and warm daytime temps and only 6 cm of new snow. The average minimum temperature for the week was -11.6 degrees Celsius and the average max temp was 0.6. Warm temps through the week settled the snowpack out to 223 cm. On another pre-season work trip we again had to dig our way into the front door. A big storm system at the end of November had dumped another 80 cm on Powder Creek, but by the time we arrived a couple weeks later it had settled out to a nice dense, dry base of 142 cm (4 1/2 + ft). We shovelled decks under clear sunny skies and moderate temps, went for a ski in the afternoon and enjoyed the bright full moon nights. The Christmas gang are going to be in for a great snowy treat courtesy of La Nina this year!

On a pre-season work trip into the lodge the crew found and amazing amount of snow blanketing Powder Creek and had to dig their way into the front door of the lodge! The snowpack was already at 107 cm (3 1/2 ft) and coverage and skiing were excellent - once the crew finished shoveling decks and roofs! Temps dipped to a nippy -20 celcius for a couple days then mellowed out a bit.
